English Vowels Series Guide
The books in this series are for the English vowel phonemes which are not 'long' vowels, i.e. NOT (ay) A, (ee) E, (ie) I, (oa) O, (ue) U.
One grapheme (spelling) of these vowel phonemes are to be taught in Phonic Phase 3 of the DCFS phonics programme 'Letters and Sounds' at the end of the Foundation Stage and into Year 1 of Key Stage 1. These phonemes are |ar|, |or|, |ow|, |ur|, |oi|, |air|, |ear|, |ure|, |oo|.
The first six books in this English Vowels Series cover five of these phonemes, i.e. |ar|, |or|, |oo|, |ur|, |ow|, and the schwa |er|. The graphemes used are 'ow, ou, oo, ar, er, or, ur'.
The later books cover the more difficult vowels of Phonic Phase 3, 'oi, ear, air,' and the alternative vowel spellings of Phonic Phase 5.
