Long Vowel Series Guide
This series provides teachers with a separate book for each of the 16 common 'long' vowel spellings.
The books need to be used in numerical order to be completely decodable as the 'long' vowel vocabulary is built cumulatively.
The books fit Phonic Phase 3 and Phonic Phase 5 of Letters and Sounds. The first 6 books need to be taught before going on to the English Vowels Series. These six books cover the phonemes |ai|, |ee|, |oa|, |oo|. The graphemes (spellings) they cover are 'ay, ai, ee, ea, oa, oo'.
These are now available to purchase separately from the later 10 books.
The graphemes for the phoneme |ie| are not covered early in this series except by the word 'I' in the phrase 'I can ...'. The graphemes for the phoneme |ie| are 'i-e, y, ie, igh' and they are covered in books 8, 11, 12, and 15.
