Phonemes

The Phonemes of the English Language

Everyone would agree that there are at least 40 sounds (phonemes) in the English language, but there is a debate as to the exact number.

The aim of Jelly and Bean resources is to get children started on the road to reading and writing as simply as possible. Consequently only the simplest of the phonemes and their graphemes are introduced. The linguistic questions relating to the 'complex code' are not discussed.

The phonemes and graphemes introduced by Jelly and Bean books for the Reception Year are:-
