The main aim of this series is to introduce children to the letters of the alphabet as they occur in simple words.
The books have no capital letters, no sentences and no full stops, so that the complications of capital letters are avoided.
Each book has simple nouns joined by the connecting words 'a, on, in, and, the'.
The letters used are 18 of those taught in Phonic Phase 2 of Letters and Sounds, plus 'x'. (k is not used.)
The letter 's' is only used at the end of the word 'cats', where it is pronounced /s/.
There are 3-5 new words in each book.

The word 'the' is introduced. In this word the individual letters are not pronounced in the same way as they are in the nouns. Children have to learn 'the' as a 'tricky' word in its own right.
