There are 110 synthetic phonic books in our reading scheme to help teachers deliver Letters and Sounds at the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.
Synthetic phonics comes from “synthesising” whereby you build up the sounds relating to the words or phrases. This is also known as ‘putting together’ or ‘blending’. This method helps children learn the letter sounds first. By blending these sounds together into words the children will enhance their English language skills, including reading and writing. As of 2007 ‘synthetic phonics’ is the favoured method of the UK government for teaching children to read and write.
Nine Synthetic Phonics Series incorporating tricky words
We have nine series of books, from the A and B Series for Phonic Phase 2, through to the English Vowel and Long Vowel Series for Phonic Phase 5. The stories are highly structured so that children are able to successfully read a whole book from the outset. High frequency words are added gradually throughout each series. The motivational force this provides assists children greatly on their road to becoming successful readers.
